The American Quarter Horse is an American breed. It is generally a calm and docile horse with a compact short body and head and is defined by its heavily muscled body, powerful shoulders and hind quarters along with strong sturdy legs.

Reining

Reining is a judged western discipline designed to show the athletic abilities of the cowboys ranch horse, and the confines of the show arena. The National Reining Horse Association has 13 approved patterns that include small slow circles, large fast circles, 360 degree spins, flying lead changes, roll backs over the horses hocks and the hallmark sliding stop that are always a crowd favorite.

The NRHA judging system is judged from 0-100 with a 70 denoting an average score. Each maneuver in the reining pattern recieves a score of +1 1/2 to -1 1/2, with half point increments with 0 indicating an average maneuver.
