Cutting
Cutting is a western event that requires the rider to "cut" a cow out from herd and demonstrate their ability to keep the cow away from the herd(group). Rider's are given 2:30 to cut a minimum of 2 cows from the herd. Riders are assisted by 4 helpers: 2 herd holders, and 2 turn back men, to keep the cattle from running away.
Judges score the run 60 to 80, with 70 being an average score. Horse recieive extra credit for their skill, style, and exertion used to keep the cow under control. The rider can ncur a penalty for picking up his reins, or losing a cow.
